WineTree - black walnut
This handmade, solid wood WineTree is truly one-of-a-kind. Only one was made and is available for sale.
I saw this beautiful black walnut slab at a sawmill, it was too short for a table but I knew I had to make something out of it.
I let it air-dry for a few years in my shop and when it came time to create something I looked at it for a while until the board “spoke to me”. The result - a one-of-a-kind WineTree that perfectly showcases the woodgrain and color.
And speaking of color, most commercially available walnut lumber today is “steamed”, a process during the kiln-drying process when hot steam is used to turn the sapwood (the youngest wood, close to the bark) from golden-beige to a medium-brown color. The kiln operator tries to even out the color differences between the sapwood and heartwood - however the process also results in loss of some color and brilliance in the heartwood. Air dried lumber, on the other hand, shows the wood in its natural color variations, from gold to very dark brown.
For the base I used heavy oak cleats, connected with tight half-lap joints, to hold the WineTree steady even when filled with six bottles of your favorite wine. Felt pads are added to prevent scratching of floors.
The walnut WineTree has been left in its natural color (no stain added) and it is finished with natural hardwax oil with a satin sheen.
The WineTree is the perfect gift for the wine lover in your life, especially for a connoisseur who has a few very special bottles to display. It is designed to hold up to six standard 750ml wine bottles.
Walnut Winetree dimensions: 29” tall, 15 1/2” wide and the board is 1 1/4” thick. The base is approx. 12” deep and 14 1/2” wide, the WineTree weighs around 17 lbs. (without bottles).
(Wine bottles are props only and not included with purchase, sorry.)
