Domed Lid Jewelry Boxes
Another order from a long-time repeat client - wooden jewelry boxes as Christmas gifts for their customers.
We reviewed different options and ideas and decided on handmade jewelry boxes sized for two ready-made felt inserts to keep jewelry organized and safe.
The boxes were made in various hardwood species including walnut, maple, cherry, red and white oak, pecan and apple. Mitered corners were assembled with dovetail joinery inserts and reinforced with wooden splines.
Bottoms were made from 5mm maple plywood and the tops are made of solid wood with a domed “pillow” shape. This gave the boxes a unique design to set them apart.
Instead of hinges and locks I used two different sized “locator blocks” which I glued only to the lids. The blocks align the lids perfectly to the box bodies, without the need for any metal hardware.
Lastly each recipients initials were engraved to make them a truly personalized gift.
